Ann Swain, CEO of APSCo

It has been my privilege to serve as CEO to APSCo (previously ATSCo) for over 15 years now. In that time I’ve seen it grow into a powerful, energetic and influential force in the world of Professional Staffing without ever losing close contact with its membership. We are a trade body that wants to get to know our members inside out so that we can better support their ambitions and plans and get to know the people that make it happen.

APSCo members seem to share a drive for success married with an excellent sense of humour and inexhaustible capacity for networking and socialising. This makes my job hugely enjoyable, if a little tiring at times!

But when I look back over each year’s activities I am always amazed by what we have achieved. Take last year for example – 72 member meetings across the UK, another fantastic charity ball, and significant input into government legislative consultation around the Agency Workers Directive.

Darren Ryemill, CEO of Opus

I am the founder and CEO of the Opus Professional Services Group; an elite parent company to a number of specialist recruitment solutions.

As The Sunday Times ‘Best Leader’ 2015, Recruiter Awards for Excellence ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ 2015 and Recruitment International’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ 2013, I have created a winning and highly driven company culture throughout my recruitment ventures.

I believe in innovative strategies and a new approach to recruitment; processes that have placed us on the Virgin Fast Track, Recruiter Hot 100, Recruiter Fast 50, Recruitment International Top 250, Accelerate 250 and the top recruitment company on The Sunday Times 100 Best Small Companies to Work For.

I began my entrepreneur journey back in 2001 when I founded an Events Management Company. From there, I decided to dip my toes in the recruitment pool of opportunity and was instantly fascinated by the fast-paced world of recruitment.

From there I founded Recruit360 Limited in 2004 which went on to see glorified success that further inspired me to create a more niche offering; Opus Recruitment Solutions.

In 2008, during the peak of a recession, I set up Opus Recruitment Solutions. With just four consultants, we made a turnover of £1.25m in our first full trading year and things have only moved onwards and upwards since.

The Opus Group consists of seven brands, all providing specialist niche services across the recruitment industry; Opus Recruitment Solutions, Baltimore Consulting, Talentcubed, McLean Ross, Hinton Spencer, Addocura and JDR Energy International.

Tom Glanfield, CEO of Lawrence Harvey Group

I founded Lawrence Harvey in 2002 with a graduate loan and the goal of becoming one of the leading recruitment brands across the UK .

It was risky but I was ambitious and I wanted to create a company that was not only focused on delivering outstanding results to customers but was also a creative and inclusive place to work.

Just as I had created the opportunity for myself, I wanted to encourage people to work differently and give them the flexibility to do so, embracing their entrepreneurial spirit. My dream was to create a company that would stand out from the crowd, to have a leading market reputation and to do it with both professionalism and personality.

Now, over a decade later Lawrence Harvey is an established, international, trusted brand with over 80 specialist consultants across the UK, USA and Europe and are continuing our journey with more international offices further widening our geographical presence. Three new brands have opened under the group and with more to come this year it is an incredibly exciting time for myself and these businesses.

Crossrail 2 has also just been given the green light worth £27-32b.

How does Adam fit into all this? As a niche engineering consultant he directs a rail infrastructure team that supply staff and contractors into rail signalling, civil and commercial projects, and a manufacturing team that supply staff and contractors into rolling stock projects, without these essential human resources, the projects would lose significant momentum. His countless testimonials are tribute to a man that not only grasps the essence of recruitment, but has fully assimilated into this highly technical market.
